10:30am Worship Service with Communion
The events of Palm Sunday, often referred to as Jesus' triumphal entry, signaled the coming of the promised Messiah. Israel had been awaiting this moment for hundreds of years. He was the One to make all wrong things right. Riding into Jerusalem on a simple, lowly donkey signified His humility and meekness, not at all what everyone expected. He did not come intending to overthrow with sword, army, or hostility. His purpose was to lay down His life on our behalf, showing the heart of a true King.
Eyewitnesses saw the brutal torture: His maimed body bleeding on a cross. It's not easy to think about His horrible death, but this very act became humanity's salvation. Hanging there, He uttered His final words,
"It is finished," and breathed His last breath. The cross signaled the fulfillment of God's promise to reverse the curse caused by sin and death. Jesus' dead, mangled body went into the grave, bringing an end to sin's control over us. Through the perfect sacrifice of a perfect man, sin and guilt lost their power over creation.
God's redemptive plan was validated on that Sunday morning. Jesus shattered the shackles of the grave and arose in power and blinding light, with explosive love, and the charge to heal humanity's woes. Jesus' sacrificial love and obedience overcame the curse of sin and death and restored our relationship with God. His resurrection became our hope for a new life. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead can enter your heart and give you new life. The resurrection of Jesus is God's powerful statement of faithfulness, and every Sunday wherever Christians gather, they do so to remember and rejoice.
